Background InformationCarers UK, the working name of the Carers' National Association, is a campaigning charity seeking support and recognition for those providing unpaid care for friends, partners and family members. Alongside campaigning, it also provides support services and undertakes research. Although it has its roots in the late 1960s, the current organisation was formed in 1988, through the merger of the Association of Carers (est. 1982), and the National Council for the Single Woman and Her Dependants (est. 1967, and renamed National Council for Carers and their Elderly Dependants from 1982). The latter organisation was established by Congregationalist Minister Mary Webster. Company no. 864097, charity no. 246329.
