Background InformationCrisis UK is a national charity (no. 1082947) providing help and support for the single homeless. Crisis was established following a campaign by William Shearman and Conservative politician Iain MacLeod (whose wife, Eve, became life President). The organisation was founded and led by Shearman, with curate Nick Beacock as the first chair. Like fellow homeless charity Shelter, Crisis was also a response to the groundbreaking television drama Cathy Come Home. In 1971 Crisis held the first Crisis at Christmas at St Anne's Church, Westminster, providing a shelter for the homeless during Christmas week. This is now an annual event. Prior to this, the organisation had principally concentrated on fundraising efforts in the Christmas period. Sources:; Curtis & Sanderson Unsung Sixties 2004
