Background InformationWar on Want is an international development charity (no. 208724) working to combat global poverty and injustice. The charity emerged out of Victor Gollancz's Association for World Peace, a body set up in 1951 to campaign for peace and development. A committee was established, under the chairmanship of future Labour prime minister Harold Wilson, to produce a report on poverty. This was published in 1952 as 'War on Want - A Plan for World Development'. War on Want then became an independent organisation. Sources: www.waronwant.org; Luetchford & Burns 2003
