| Background Information | Tearfund is a major evangelical Christian international relief and development charity (no. 265464). Born out of the Evangelical Alliance, the charity has its roots in the donations it received in connection with World Refugee Year in 1960. In 1968, what was the Evangelical Alliance Refugee Fund became The Evangelical Alliance Relief Fund (hence Tearfund) and responded to the crisis caused by the Biafran civil war. Since then, Tearfund has worked worldwide with the victims of both man-made and natural disasters. Alongside disaster relief, priorities for the organisation include international poverty and trade, HIV/AIDS and climate change. Tearfund is one of the member agencies of the Disasters Emergency Committee.
