Background Information

Age Concern England (a.k.a. the National Council on Ageing) provides information and advice to older people, as well as campaigning nationally on their behalf. In addition, it is a federation of local charities delivering services to older people. Age Concern emerged out of the National Council of Social Service (now the NCVO), becoming an independent organisation in 1970. Age Concern is a member of AGE, the European Older People's Platform, which operates at EU level. The working name Age Concern was adopted in 1971. In September 2008, Age Concern England and Help the Aged have announced that they will be creating a new charity in April 2009. They are now called Age UK.
