Save the Children, the working name of the Save the Children Fund, is a leading humanitarian relief charity (no. 213890) working for children in the UK and worldwide. Alongside emergency relief, the charity works in the fields of health, education, HIV/AIDS, exploitation, equality, and poverty. The Fund emerged out of the Fight the Famine Council, established by sisters Dorothy Buxton and Eglantyne Jebb in response to the conditions in Europe following World War I. The Fund?s work began to diversify worldwide in the 1930s, a trend interrupted by World War II but continued in the 1950s and 1960s. During the 1920s Jebb oversaw the establishment of the International Save the Children Union, and the Save the Children international network now has member organisations in 27 countries.
