Background Information

British Irish Rights Watch is an independent non-governmental organisation that has been monitoring the human rights dimension of the conflict, and the peace process, in Northern Ireland since 1990. It provides services free of charge, to anyone whose human rights have been violated because of the conflict, regardless of religious, political or community affiliations. Established by by a group of concerned lawyers and others, the group was one of those behind the 1992 Northern Ireland Human Rights Assembly in London, which resulted in the critical report Broken Covenants, following which BIRW was constituted as a formal body.
