Background InformationWomen Against Fundamentalisms (WAF) challenges the rise of fundamentalism in religion, and the impact this has had on the rights of women. WAF was founded by Southall Black Sisters, and has recently revived following a period of inactivity from 1997. WAF's slightly amended name now emphasises the range of religious fundamentalisms it seeks to combat, reflecting a concern that fundamentalism had become too closely associated with Islam.
