Background Information

In its own words, the "Women's World Day of Prayer is a global, ecumenical movement of informed prayer and prayerful action, organised and led by Christian women who call the faithful together on the first Friday in March each year to observe a common day of prayer and who, in many countries, have a continuing relationship in prayer and service." The first Day of Prayer services to be held in Great Britain took place in the 1930s. The international movement has older roots, however, emerging during the late nineteenth century in the USA and Canada. An international committee coordinates the work of the various national organisations. Source:
