Background InformationThe Women's Freedom League was a breakaway body from the Women's Social and Political Union, formed in protest at the lack of internal democracy in the latter group. Originally a suffrage organisation, it focussed on more general equality issues following the partial victory of the 1918 Representation of the People Act.
