Background Information

The Asian Youth Movement was a network of grass-roots anti-racist campaigns, active in the 1970s and 1980s. The Southall Youth Movement was formed in 1976, followed the next year by the Bradford-based Indian Progressive Youth Association (IPYA), which renamed itself Asian Youth Movement Bradford in 1978. The years 1980-1982 saw the formation of  further Asian Youth Movement groups in Manchester, Birmingham and Sheffield. Source: www.indymedia.info/tandana/kalatara2000.pdf
