Background InformationVictim Support provides confidential advice and support for victims and witnesses of crime in England and Wales, as well as acting as a public advocate of the rights of victims and witnesses. In doing so, it builds on the campaigning work of Margery Fry, and the establishment of the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme in 1964. Victim Support emerged out of work by the National Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders (NACRO) in Bristol in the early 1970s, with the first Victim Support being set up there in 1974. Prior to adopting its current name, Victim Support was known as the National Association of Victim Support Schemes (NAVSS). Victim Support has close links with Victim Support Scotland, and Victim Support Northern Ireland. Source:
