Background Information"The Victoria League for Commonwealth Friendship was founded to promote friendship and understanding among the peoples of the Commonwealth." It particular, it seeks to welcome and assist visitors from the Commonwealth, whatever the purpose of their visit, but with a particular focus on students. The idea for the League came from Mary Davis, travelling in South Africa during the Boer War, and was taken up in London, under the presidency of Margaret, Countess of Jersey.
