Background Information | The Conservative Monday Club, normally known more simply as the Monday Club, is a Conservative party-oriented organisation interested in law and order, strong defence, a strong economy, and an independent Britain under the Crown.
It was formed out of the right-wing backlash against Harold Macmillan's famous Winds of Change speech in South Africa (delivered on a Monday), which heralded the second and final major wave of the post World War II decolonisation of the British Empire.
In the past, the Club opinions on immigration have been particularly high profile, and it was suspended from membership of the Conservative party in 2001 over its views.
