Background Information

GirlGuiding UK is the national body for the girl guide movement, providing recreational activities and personal development opportunities for girls aged five and over. The movement currently has more than 500,000 members in the UK, and more than 10 million worldwide. The Girl Guide Movement was established by Robert Baden Powell, as a female alternative to the Boy Scout Movement he had set up three years previously. Both Movements sought, and seek, to facilitate the personal development of children within a patriotic, religious framework.
